Hey guys Danielle here and I have decided to do something a little different. My friend Tiffany of Single Mommy Warrior and I have been talking all summer about the lack of real transparency among most bloggers. I am always surprised by the sheer number of “consultants” and “coaches” that seem to spring up claiming to be able to help you reach new heights with your blog and social media but yet they are about as transparent as a brown paperbag.
Start of Rant
The problem with this is that they prey on new bloggers or people desperate to make money from blogging and most don’t thoroughly check these people out. If your social media/blog consultant or coach has less followers than you why in the world would you ever listen to these people.
Here is the thing the big boys like ProBloggers Darren Rowse and Smart Passive Income’s Pat Flynn have proven track records want to know something else they are pretty darn transparent about their earnings and where they come from. I personally go to these two sites when it comes to blogging, hand down.
SO next time someone wants to coach you or help with consulting have them show you the blog that they took to new heights personally. People like Darren Rowse didn’t immediately start blogging about blogging he ran and still runs a Digital Photography site and used many methods and experimented to find what worked so on the ProBlogger site you get information about things he actually did with his own blog.
Okay, rant over but just be careful the internet is full of information just make sure you are getting it from a worthwhile source. Personally I have only bought books and ebooks put out by Darren Rowse. If you are looking for something to help you when it comes to blogging check out visit ProBlogger. I also own which I highly recommend ProBlogger: Secretes for Blogging Your Way to a Six Figure Income .
I just wanted to get that all off my chest before we get started. Since this is my very first income report I am going to catch you all up so this report will be from Jan. 1 2014-Jul 31 2014 after this reports will be monthly instead of over large periods of time.
YouTube (Actual)Earnings ————————— $2,173.89
Adsense (Ads on this blog)——————-$85.49
Passion Fruit Ads——————————$70.00
Lijit now Sovrn——————————–$33.81
As you can see my biggest earner was YouTube which makes since because I am averaging about 111,246 views per month. I am actually working on adding a few pages here on how become successful on youtube with lots of examples from my channel. I am still writing it hopefully it will be done by the end of the year and guess what it won’t cost a thing because I didn’t pay to learn about youtube and neither should you.
My other earnings aren’t really all that big but things are getting better each and every month. I just joined a few new programs so we will see what kind of earnings I see with BlogHer Publishing Network , Glitter Network , MomsAffiliate and TapInfluence in the coming months.

Montlhy Traffic Breakdown (Pageviews)
As you can see my traffic began to steadily increase. Now let me explain what occurred. From Jan-May I was still in nursing school so I wasn’t updating the blog at all, shoot I never even bothered to check on it because school was kicking my butt. I got out of school around May 19th and that is when I dove right back in to updating the blog.
So you can see that the stats rose the more time I spent working on the site. My first post back was on May 22nd where I basically explain to the people that stuck with the site where I had gone. From that day forward I began blogging consistently.
For a few weeks I blogged every single day then I did a bit of research and discovered that my highest traffic days were Tuesday and Thursday so I dropped back to only posting on these days unless there was something that had to be posted on another day like a sponsored post.
Doing this actually allowed me more time to promote my post via social media and to schedule tweets and facebook status updates. So the increase in traffic came from me actively working on promoting my post via Social Media , Social Media Groups as well as posting on a more consistent basis and some advertising.
Now you may be wondering what my top referrers were so lets get to that now.
Top Referrers (according to Google Analytics)
As you can see #1 is StumbleUpon but notice the bounce rate 92.91% so all traffic isn’t really GOOD traffic. The entire premise behind StumbleUpon is that people pretty much stumble through tons of blogs but I think if I gained a few readers then I am good with it.
Now I want you to look at #2 this is very important. One day I woke up to find a ton of traffic from this site. I had never heard of it and was very curious about the kind of site this was. I found out it was one of those pay for traffic type sites so I hurried up and shot them an email explaining that I never signed up with them and for them to please correct the error. If you EVER see traffic coming from this site contact them immediately and have it stopped so that Google won’t punish you if you are using Adsense.
Now the good traffic Pinterest really started to turn around for me especially once I started using Canva (its free) to create my images for pinterest. No surprise that YouTube is one of my top referrers the youtube channel is great for traffic and as you can see they are also good on my bounce rate. Of course you can see all the usuals I am still unclear what semalt is but I am thinkint that it is some type of bot or reader.
So far it has been a really good year and I am going to keep building off everything that I am learning. All the different experiments that I have tried on this site are showing me quite a bit.
- Promotion and Consistency is key to getting more traffic on your blog
- Even smaller blogs can make a little extra money blogging
- Pinterest is a great way to gain traffic and using Canva to create images for pinterest can be a big help
- Immediately contact HitLeap if you see them show in your analytics, Google may disable your Adsense account if you don’t
- All blog traffic isn’t GOOD Traffic
