I thought I would do this months report a little different. This months traffic and income report is full of great information not only from what I learned in the month of October but also from bloggers around the web that have great tips to share on how they many money blogging.
Let’s see how we did this month by looking at last months goal and if I met them or not.
Income wise I hope that I can increase my income by at least $100-$200 dollars next month. Goal Met. Last month I had an income of $1012.49 and for the month of October I ran in $1,256.85 . So I would say things are heading in the right direction for sure.
It would be nice to see traffic increase to about 16,000 pageviews which is about 533 pageviews a day. Goal Met. Traffic last month came in at 14,954 pageviews and this month I saw an increase of 2,014 pageviews for a grand total of 16,968 pageviews for the month of October.
To stick more closely to my blogging schedule of two times per week and have more original content than sponsored content. Goal Not Met. I am sad to say that I didn’t stick to my schedule like I had wanted to. I actually posted much more than I normally do and I had a pretty big influx of sponsored content. Sometimes its just so hard to say no. Mama does have to keep the lights on…LOL. But I do have quite a few original post and series lined up for November so I am very excited about that.
and to have fun and take a little time each day to reflect and focus on myself because if I am taking care of me then everything else will benefit including my blog. Goal Not Totally Met. I would love to say that I took a little time to have fun but I can tell you that October was a really busy month. I didn’t even feel like I had time to breathe most of the time. I will say that October was my sons birthday so I took time out to just spend time and love on him so I feel like that was at least a win. We celebrated the entire first week of October.
Like I had said above income definitely increased for the month of October so lets dive in and see where the income came from.
YouTube Earnings ————————— $218.79
Adsense (Ads on this blog)——————-$12.77
Private Ad Sales——————————-$180.00
Passion Fruit Ads ——————————$106.21
Lijit now Sovrn——————————–$18.12
Just like last month SoFab is in the lead and now the blog is fully producing a higher income than the youtube channel. I am also happy to report that I have started a new series on YouTube so that I can start to increase the income from youtube as well but I will be talking about that at a later date.
I have also added in a few new programs that I am really excited about. I started using Copperatize and Famebit both of which I have to say I really enjoy. Copperatize has immediate payouts with no thresholds to reach. So as soon as you create your post and submit it you get paid which is amazing because very few companies work like this. I definitely suggest checking them out.
Now Famebit is exclusively for YouTubers that have over 1k in subscribers. Remember me telling you that you should be on YouTube!?! Famebit promotions are high dollar promotions. I just completed my first on it was only for $100 but most of the promotions are for $500 and up so there is some major money to be made there. This is also part of the reason I am starting a consistent original series on YouTube to increase my views and subscribers even more. I love getting paid to do what I love and I really enjoy producing videos.
I did one post for sponsored reviews and it was pretty easy the payouts are all that big but you can find review opps in your category and bid for the job which is nice. If you are a smaller blogger and want to make a little money then I think this is definitely the way to go.
Monthly Traffic Breakdown (Pageviews)
October———————————-16,968 (+2014 from last month)
Traffic was definitely on the upswing this month and I am sure that it had to do with a number of things. The second week of October I had Bloggers Week and it was very popular. Hopefully you all checked it out if not you can find all my blogging tips that were featured on Bloggers Week here .
Then later in the month I ran two really big giveaways one for a Fitbit Flex and the other for a Wireless Security System. Both of these giveaways did extremely well and definitely boosted my traffic for their 2 week run. However this won’t be an all time thing but the boost was nice this month.
No surprise that Facebook was my #1 again this month. I tried a new stratgey using Facebook video versus standard post types like links and pictures. I saw a dramatic increase in engagement by using this new strategy. You can read more about that here.
Then second on the list is Pinterest. Like I have said time and time again pictures matter. You can’t expect Pinterest to bring you much traffic if you have crappy pictures. So even if you have a little point and shoot you can still take nice pictures. Take a little time and learn about lighting and camera angles and your pictures will turn out so much better. I wrote and article all about increasing your traffic with pinterest so you should definitely take time to check that out.
Number three is Giveaway Promote because I had the two giveaways running. If you ever run a giveaway and want to promote it this is definitely the way to go. I have used a ton of different sites to promote my giveaways and have found that Giveaway promote works better than any of the other ones that I have every used.
I think that now I have come up with a pretty good strategy of the type of post to share on which networks. Videos for Facebook and Visually appealing pictures on Pinterest. I will keep this up and see if it continues to produce results.
I am still trying to figure out what will produce results on Google+ and Twitter. I may focus in on these for November.
- Diversify your income streams and try new programs to find the ones that work the best for you.
- Use video to increase engagement on your Facebook page. Take time to compare the effectiveness of video to other post types on your own page.
- Focus on taking better pictures. No mater the camera you have your pictures can be better. YouTube is a great source to find tutorials on how to take better pictures.
- and occasional giveaway or two can really help to boost your numbers but use them sparingly because they are not evergreen content and they are as good as dead as soon as the giveaway is over.
What Other Bloggers are Saying!
Jonna says, “Hosting events for myself and for others has been a money maker for me as a blogger. When planning my own events, I think of how I can bring the content discussed on my blog to life and provide readers with a real-life experience. While it is A LOT of hard work, I’ve made hundreds to even thousands from hosting my own events, and this has also made me a go-to host and event coordinator for hire for other people’s events as well”. Naturally Glam
Cassandra says, “If you can’t post daily, try to post at least 2-3x a week. It really makes a huge difference in readership. Join a giveaway with other bloggers. This month, I participated in IBN’s Thanksgiving Giveaway. It was $30 to enter (toward the prize), but my Facebook likes increased almost 6% in just two short weeks. Pinterest, Pinterest, Pinterest. Try to Pin at least once per day for 10-20 minutes (it’s easy!). On Pinterest, your number of followers is important, but it doesn’t dictate your reach. I only have 187 followers, but over 40K people per month view my Pins. Join a couple group boards if you can, but regular Pinning alone will help you build your brand. Make sure your Pinterest is connected to your blog”! Bottle Soup
Jo says, “This month, I’ve begun creating images for all of my posts– especially the ones that I wrote before Pinterest was such a driving force in traffic and promotion. As I create images for older posts, I’ve been reposting and recycling the content across my social media. Why work harder? Use what you already have and maximize the traffic to those posts. Work smarter”! Jo My Gosh
Tiffany says, “My biggest tip is to network with other bloggers. A lot of people jump into blogging, but don’t really know how to get started or how to get the results that they want. Having the support and advice of other bloggers has been a HUGE help for me. I doubt I would have any of the really cool blogger opportunities I’ve been afforded had I tried to go it alone. Find a couple of really supportive groups and start talking! You won’t regret it”. Single Mommy Warrior
Lou Martin says, “When ever you talk about any products make sure to include a affiliate link. When you do this it gives you a chance to make income that way and your income can become consistent unlike sponsored posts that usually is a one time payment deal”. Product Review Mom and Earning Free Money
Christine says, “So my biggest tip is to think outside of the box. Look at what brands are already working with bloggers and don’t be afraid to present a creative pitch to them. Blogging isn’t going anywhere and so many people are looking to start or figure out the blogging world. What service can you provide to help them do just that”? Moms N Charge
Kendra says, “My tip is be authentic. Don’t curate your content to be a perfect picture because it seems inauthentic to readers and brands. Be yourself because when brands want to see bloggers who people can relate with in every area. That advice comes directly from a brand. Headband for Today
Curvy CEO says, ” A great way to increase your blog traffic is to add keywords to your title that mirror a question that a person would type into a search engine. For instance, one of THE most popular posts on my blog is entitled, “What Differences: Shift Dress vs. Sheath Dress.” Why is it so popular? Because when you type the question into a search engine- “What is a sheath dress” or “What is a shift dress” -my blog post is among the top three articles on this rare topic. (Who knew?) Curvy CEO
- Consistently cross promote content across YouTube and the blog.
- Increase income by $150 for the month of November.
- Increase pageviews by 1,000 (I am being very optimistic).
- Find some balance between work and life. October was stressful with everything I had on my plates and I want November to be a little less chaotic.
- Increase traffic from Twitter and Google+ at least by 2% (hopefully I can find the magic strategy).
